Tesla’s Good Karma
Tesla’s good karma, “To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” Sounds great but works even better for Elon Musk’s personal ambitions. Still, there is no doubt EVs emit fewer greenhouse gases and air pollutants than gas or diesel cars, and this includes their production emissions and electricity generation to keep them running. We have rooftop solar that for the last year has produced sufficient energy to power our house, charge our EV, and sell some excess solar power to SDG&E. Combining the EV with our rooftop solar means that we are directly using the sun’s energy to reduce our carbon footprint from both our home and EV.
I’m not a “tree hugger” but it is clear the earth is being impacted by human overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation impacts whose source can be conveniently summarized in the phrases “carbon footprint” and “climate change”. Impacts of reliance on fossil fuels have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water. EVs are a superior technology that combined with solar energy reduces our carbon footprint, so why not adopt these technologies to help in the cause of fighting climate change? In doing so, I think we have at least a small share of Tesla’s good karma because it is the right thing to do.
